QIS
Definition
Quantitative Impact Study. A data collection exercise by regulators to assess the impact of proposed regulatory changes on banks.
What This Actually Means
When BCBS or EBA proposes new IRRBB rules, they ask banks to calculate what the impact would be under the new framework. The aggregated results inform whether the proposals need recalibrating before they become final standards.
Where It Matters
QIS exercises are your early warning system for regulatory change. If a QIS shows the proposed SOT threshold would breach for 30% of banks, the regulator may soften the calibration. Participating actively gives you influence over the final outcome and early insight into what's coming.
